About the Role
As a Senior Big Data DBA at NCG (NetConnect Global), you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the performance, stability, and scalability of mission-critical database systems. You will support large-scale Postgres and Greenplum environments, drive automation initiatives, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance data infrastructure. This role provides opportunities for professional growth through exposure to cutting-edge big data technologies, cloud platforms, and DevOps practices, while also allowing you to mentor junior DBAs and influence best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day support for distributed and mission-critical database environments, ensuring high availability and reliability.
Maintain and optimize Postgres and Greenplum databases, including installation, configuration, upgrades, and performance tuning.
Support HADR (High Availability Disaster Recovery), replication clusters, backup/restore strategies, and disaster recovery testing.
Contribute to the automation of routine DBA tasks (using Ansible, Python, Shell, or Perl) and establish operational best practices.
Partner with DevOps and SRE teams to modernize database environments through CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues, performing root cause analysis across application, network, database, and infrastructure layers.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, cloud, analytics) to implement scalable data solutions.
Provide guidance and training to L1/L2 database support teams globally.
Participate in on-call rotation for weekend and after-hours production support as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (Master’s preferred).
6–9 years of experience as a Database Administrator, with a strong focus on big data technologies.
Proven expertise with:
Greenplum Database (v5, v6, or higher)
Postgres (v12 or higher)
Proficiency in database administration (installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, troubleshooting).
Strong experience in performance tuning, replication, and high availability in Postgres/Greenplum environments.
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Snowflake preferred).
Strong scripting skills in Unix/Linux environments (Ansible, Shell, Perl, or Python).
Solid understanding of backup/recovery, disaster recovery, and capacity planning.
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with technical and non-technical teams.
